"?Arsenal are closing in on the £33.8m signing of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, according to German publication Rheinische Post.

The Swiss midfielder - who is also on Liverpool's radar - has been linked with a move to the Emirates for several months as Arsene Wenger finally looks to bolster his midfield. The likes of Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta are each expected to leave the club in the summer and Xhaka has been identified as a long-term replacement.

Arsenal's offer is reported to include further performance bonuses which will trigger dependent on the success of the 23-year-old in Arsenal colours. The Daily Telegraph report too that a deal is close, though claim personal terms have yet to be agreed with the player.

The player was quizzed about his potential move to England earlier this week, but he stated at the time that while he's happy playing in Germany at the moment he's yet to decide on his future, and will consider it if an offer comes in. He did however claim at the time that there was no offer on the table from the Gunners.

"?He said"What happens is not entirely down to me. I can only say that I am really happy here, and my contract runs through to 2020.

"Until today, no offer has been made. Should something come up, we'd possibly sit down and decide what happens. And if nothing comes up, everything fits here at Borussia."

Xhaka joined Gladbach from Basel in 2012 and has since played in 107 Bundesliga games since joining.
