Algeria Coach Admits Super Eagles Fully Deserved AFCON Quarter-Final Win

Algeria head coach Vladimir Pletikovic has conceded that Nigeria were clearly the better side in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final clash, admitting that the Super Eagles fully deserved their 2–0 victory over the Desert Foxes on Saturday in Marrakech, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The Super Eagles delivered a commanding and disciplined performance to knock Algeria out of the tournament and book their place in the semi-finals. Nigeria’s intensity, organisation, and attacking efficiency proved too much for the North Africans, particularly after the break when the game tilted decisively in favour of the three-time African champions.

Speaking candidly after the match, Pletikovic did not shy away from the reality of the contest, acknowledging his team’s struggles against a superior Nigerian side.

“Do I have to tell the truth or should I be political about the match? Nigeria deserved to win this match. They were better than us,” the Algerian coach admitted.

“It was difficult to get into this match. We were hit left and right, and Nigeria imposed itself on us from the start.”

Nigeria’s dominance became more pronounced in the second half, with the Super Eagles controlling possession, dictating the tempo, and creating clearer chances. Goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams shortly after the restart effectively sealed the contest and left Algeria chasing shadows for long periods.

The result brought an end to Algeria’s AFCON 2025 campaign, while Nigeria continues its quest for a fourth continental title. The Super Eagles will now shift focus to a high-stakes semi-final showdown as confidence grows within the camp following another assured display on the continental stage.
