Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at Centre of a Tug of War Between Liverpool and Leicester City

Published on: 28 May 2016

Leicester City are reported to have joined Liverpool in the race to sign Arsenal's dynamic winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to the "?Express.

The Foxes, fresh from their scintillating Premier League title success, are determined to add greater depth to their squad with the prospect of Champions League to come, and have identified Arsenal's much-maligned midfielder.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has seen much of his Arsenal career curtailed by injuries, notwithstanding the injury sustained in February to his knee which ruled him out of the European Championships this summer.

The 22-year-old has been with the Gunners since 2011 following a £15m move from Southampton, but according to speculation, manager Arsene Wenger is open to the idea of severing ties with the pacey winger in order to make space for additional signings. The player has previously too been linked with a return to his former club.

The report also states that the midfielder, who has managed only seven goals during his time with the club, is keen to remain with the Gunners, despite Arsenal's willingness to sanction his sale. Oxlade-Chamberlain is currently down the pecking order to Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla and new-comer Alex Iwobi.

Wenger is keen to replenish his ranks ahead of the forthcoming season following a largely under-whelming campaign at the Emirates. The Gunners eventually piqued bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur to second spot in the Premier League, but finished 10 points adrift of champions Leicester.
