The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, has urged the Super Eagles to remain focused and disciplined as they prepare for their quarterfinal fixture at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
His comments come on the back of Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique in Monday night’s Round of 16 encounter, a result that further strengthened belief in the team’s title credentials.
The Super Eagles delivered one of their most complete performances of the tournament against the Mambas, with Victor Osimhen scoring a brace to take his tally to four goals in the competition. Ademola Lookman, who was named Man of the Match, was again influential, registering a goal and two assists, while Akor Adams rounded off the dominant display with Nigeria’s fourth goal. The convincing nature of the win has heightened expectations among fans and stakeholders as the knockout stages intensify.
Reacting to the result, Hon. Amadu, who represents the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency, praised the players and technical crew for their professionalism and attacking quality, noting that the team’s depth has been a major advantage throughout the tournament.
“The Super Eagles players and the technical crew deserve commendation for their display in the second-round match against Mozambique,” Amadu said. “The team is well composed, and the quality in the squad means goals can come from any department of the team, which makes it difficult for opponents to contain Nigeria.”
Despite the growing optimism, the lawmaker cautioned against complacency, stressing that the hardest part of the tournament still lies ahead as Nigeria targets a fourth AFCON title.
“The job is not done yet. The team still has three matches to win before lifting the trophy. They must remain disciplined and avoid being carried away by the victory,” he added.
Hon. Amadu also reaffirmed the backing of the National Assembly and the Federal Government, assuring the Nigeria Football Federation, players, and team officials of continued support as the Super Eagles push deeper into the competition.
Nigeria will now turn its attention to the quarterfinals, where focus, consistency, and mental strength will be crucial as the Super Eagles seek to translate their impressive performances into continental glory.
