AFCON 2025: Cameroon edge Gabon in tight Group F encounter

Published on: 25 December 2025

An early Etta Eyong strike gives the Indomitable Lions a vital win versus the Panthers in a hotly-contested Africa Cup of Nations Group F match played at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir, Morocco, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The breakthrough came early in the 6th minute, when Etta Eyong found the back of the net. The goal was initially checked by VAR but was eventually allowed to stand, handing the Indomitable Lions an early advantage.

Gabon responded positively and came close to equalising in the 18th minute, but Cameroonian goalkeeper Eppasy produced an excellent save to deny them.

Cameroon continued to threaten, with Namaso firing narrowly wide in the 23rd minute.

Seeking inspiration, Gabon introduced Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mario midway through the first half. The substitutions nearly paid off as Aubameyang had a huge opportunity just before the interval, but Cameroon’s defence stood firm to preserve their lead at the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with both sides creating chances. Bryan Mbeumo tested Gabon goalkeeper Mbaba with a powerful effort in the 54th minute, but the shot-stopper reacted superbly.

Gabon enjoyed sustained pressure late on, fashioning back-to-back chances in the 72nd minute, yet again failing to find a way past Cameroon’s resolute backline.

Mbaba continued to keep Gabon in the contest, denying Magri in the 78th minute, but it was not enough to spark a comeback.

At the final whistle, Cameroon held on for a 1–0 win, their first win over the Panthers in their history of the African Cup of Nations.
