Nanjing: Jiangsu FC and Shanghai SIPG go into the second-leg of their 2017 AFC Champions League last 16 clash at Nanjing Olympic Sports Center on Wednesday with the tie delicately poised following Shanghai’s 2-1 win in last week’s first-leg.
Colombian Roger Martinez gave Jiangsu an early advantage in his side’s first-ever Round of 16 game, before a penalty from Hulk and Odil Ahmedov’s decisive strike on the stroke of half-time ensured Andre Villas-Boas’ men arrive in Nanjing with a narrow one-goal lead to defend.
After winning their opening away game on the continent, Shanghai have gone on to lose their last two on the road but will make their second successive quarter-final appearance should they avoid defeat.
Jiangsu warmed up for the game with a 2-2 draw against Guizhou Zhicheng in the Chinese Super League on Saturday, while Shanghai routed Beijing Guoan 5-1 to remain second in the standings.
