Jeju: A late breakaway goal by Jin Sung-wook sealed a 2-0 win for Jeju United over former champions Urawa Red Diamonds in the first-leg of their Round of 16 meeting with the Japanese side in the 2017 AFC Champions League on Wednesday.
Marcelo Toscano headed home Hwang Il-su’s cross from the right, steering the ball into the bottom corner after just seven minutes while Jin netted three minutes into injury time to give Cho Sung-hwan’s team the advantage ahead of the second-leg at Saitama Stadium on Wednesday.
Jeju saw Magno Cruz squander a pair of chances to add to his side’s lead in the first-half while Kweon Han-jin cleared Yuki Muto’s second-half attempt off his own goal line eight minutes after the interval.
Zlatan Ljubijankic and Shinzo Koroki were denied by Jeju United goalkeeper Kim Ho-jun as Urawa sought a crucial away goal, and their hopes were hit further in the 93rd minute when Jin broke away to score via the inside of Shusaku Nishikawa’s right post.
