AC Milan Reportedly Rejected Liverpool Offer for Full-Back Mattia De Sciglio

Liverpool reportedly made a late bid for AC Milan defender Mattia de Sciglio only to see their offer rebuffed by the Serie A giants, according to Italian publication Sport Mediaset.

The Italy international, 23, was heavily linked with a move to Anfield all summer after reports suggested that the Reds were in a desperate search for a full-back to challenge Alberto Moreno.

The Merseyside clubs reportedly failed in their efforts to bring Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell to the club, as well as Lucas Digne, who instead signed for La Liga champions Barcelona.

It is understood their search for a full-back extended to De Sciglio and according to Italian reports, the Reds submitted an offer for the versatile defender, but Milan rejected their approach.

Serie A giants Juventus and Napoli also expressed strong interest in De Sciglio, who currently has two years remaining on his contract at the San Siro, with the latter reportedly submitting an offer for the 23-year-old too.

Their efforts were rebuffed also as Milan hold the Italy international, who made 22 Serie A appearances last season, in high esteem.

Klopp's failure to sign De Sciglio means James Milner and Alberto Moreno will continue to compete for the left-back berth for the foreseeable future.

Milner, who recently retired from international football, is currently first choice and his agent, Matthew Buck,"? revealed his client is willing to adapt to his new role.

"He has huge respect for Jurgen. He's 30 but always learning and embracing things,"? he said. "Left-back is a difficult one for him as he's naturally right footed.

"I wouldn't say he finds it easy but as people know from his personality and temperament he will always put the team first.

"James wants to contribute to the team and will sacrifice himself in order to give the team the best opportunity to win."
