AC Milan Midfielder Opens Up on Why He Had to Quit Liverpool

Published on: 20 December 2016

Former Liverpool player Suso has revealed in a recent interview with the Italian media why he chose to quit Anfield over a move to Serie A side AC Milan.

The Spanish winger who joined the Reds academy in 2010, failed to break into the first team after numerous seasons at Anfield only making 21 appearances and scoring one goal for Liverpool before being sold in 2015.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, via  InsideFutbol, The 23-year-old opened up about his time at Liverpool saying: "At Liverpool, there was no going forward and I needed an opportunity"?

"That's why I chose Milan, who for me are a top European club.

Suso has recently enjoyed an extended run in Milan's first team after new boss Vincenzo Montella took over after struggling to break into the starting XI.

However, the 23-year-old is currently enjoying the best form of his career scoring five times, and providing six assists across 17 appearances.

"It was hard at first, but then I was given an opportunity, thanks to Montella."?

AC Milan is currently fifth in the Italian League heading into the new year, nine points off league leaders Juventus. However, after the clubs fall from grace in recent years, exciting prospects like Suso are emerging as a new beginning for the Italian giants.

Now that Suso has made his break into the Milan's starting eleven, the former Liverpool player is looking towards his future prospects including extending his contract with the Serie A club and hopefully a call up to Spain's international side.

"I would like to renew my contract," Suso said.

"I would also want to be in the national team. If Lopetgui can give opportunities to others, then why not to me?"?
