IfeanyiUbah Stunned By 10-Man Rivers United

Published on: 10 December 2016

The 10 men of Rivers United produced a fine performance to beat a lacklustre FC IfeanyiUbah side 2-0 to record their first win in the Nigeria Professional Football League Super Four competition on Friday at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu. Rivers United made a bright start to the game as they moved the ball around swiftly with their opponent playing second fiddle. The early pressure paid off as Lukman Mohammed netted the opener in the 11th minute. Stanley Eguma’s men pinned their opponents into their own half as they pressed for more goals. Jimoh Oni came close to equalising for IfeanyiUbah in the 24th minute but his effort hit the cross bar. Franlyn Sasere also missed another chance when he shot wide from close range a minute after the half-hour mark. Rivers United responded with a chance of their own with Ikechukwu Ezenwa making a near post save from Bernard Ovoke shot. The Port Harcourt-based side were reduced to 10 men in the 57th minute when Ayobami Asekunowo was sent off for a terrible challenge on Seka Pascal. FC Ifeanyiubah failed to make the numerical advantage count as River United continue their dominance of the game. Gabriel Wassa put the game beyond the Anambra Warriors when he netted the second on 69 minutes.
