Kelvin Akpoguma who was at a point in time called up to the Nigeria U-23 team has once again reveal his desire is to play for the German national team. Born in Germany to a Nigerian father, the former captain of the U-20 team of Germany was among 47 foreign based players called up by coach of the Nigeria Olympic team when training started in 2014 but the 20 year old didn’t honour the invitation.

Prior to Siasia calling up the Hoffeinheim defender who spent last season on loan at second division side Fortuna Dusseldorf has told various news sources in Nigeria about his preference for the German national team even though he has twice visited Nigeria.

Akpoguma reiterated his hope of playing for the senior national team of Germany after playing for all most all cadre of their youth teams during an interview with German newspaper Bild picked up by Owngoalnigeria.com.

He wants to follow in the footsteps of Jonathan Tah who rose from Fortuna Dusseldorf to the national team of Germany as oppose to chasing a national team career with the senior team of Nigeria.

“The national team of Germany is my big dream, as a matter of fact no just a dream but my goal”.
