Ghanaian midfielder Gershon Koffie scored a screamer on his 100th MLS league match as Vancouver Whitecaps posted a 2-1 win over over Real Salt Lake on Saturday afternoon in their final home match until mid-July.

It was a dominant performance from the ‘Caps and a night to remember for Koffie.

The attacking foursome of wingers Techera and Mauro Rosales, attacking midfielder Pedro Morales, and striker Octavio Rivero all looked dangerous – as did Koffie behind them.

Techera and Morales both had early chances and centre back Kendall Waston came close on a pair of headers, but it was Koffie who opened the scoring.

After hitting the crossbar just a few minutes earlier, the Ghanaian blasted in a half volley from distance in the 36th minute to give Whitecaps FC the lead.

And in the 79th minute, they scored the eventual winner when Techera alertly picked off an errant Vasquez back pass and tapped it into the gaping net.

With the win, Whitecaps FC move back into a tie for the top spot in the Western Conference with 23 points from their first 14 matches.
