GATTUSO WANTS TROPHY TO DEDICATE TO 'IMMORTAL' MARADONA

“Diego isn't dead because he'll never die.” That was Gennaro Gattuso's opening remark, in memory of the one and only Diego Maradona, after Napoli beat Rijeka 2-0 in the Europa League.

"A different, very sad atmosphere has pervaded the city since yesterday evening. Diego was an icon and a star, probably even more important than San Gennaro in Naples [the city's patron saint] .

“People will never stop talking about Maradona. This was his home and we all hope to be able to dedicate a trophy to him one day.”

The coach went on to discuss the match itself, settled by goals from Matteo Politano and Hirving Lozano

“It wasn't easy tonight,” the boss continued. “We're playing every three days and we'll keep doing so. The lads know what I want from them and I saw lots of positives today.

“We're certainly not a team of Galacticos but we have great potential. If we want to fulfil our potential, we need to work on the mental side of our game. We're on the right track because we've won eight of our eleven matches. We have to keep going like this.”
