Garry Monk Looking to Bring Back Fabian Delph to Elland Road After 5 Year Absence

Championship side Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City's Fabian Delph according to the Express. Leeds manager Gary Monk is looking to strengthen his side who currently sit in 3rd place in the Championship and bringing Delph back to Elland Road is part of his plans.

Since the arrival of Pep Guardiola, Delph's game time has been very limited. The 27-year-old has only appeared four times in total, twice in the Premier League from the bench and once in a Champions League qualifying fixture against Steaua Bucharest where he scored the winner. Delph's most recent appearance saw him come off the bench in Manchester City's 5-0 thrashing of West Ham at the London Stadium, in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.

With the season ending injury suffered by Ilkay Gundogan, Delph may have felt his chances of playing regularly would increase. However, the former Aston Villa captain has struggled to secure a place in the starting 11. A move down to the Championship to join Leeds would see Delph join familiar surroundings and offer him more playing time.

At just the age of 11, Delph joined Leeds United from Bradford, where he made a total of 54 appearances and in the 2008-2009 season won both the Football League young player of the season award and the goal of the season award. In the 2011-2012 winter transfer window, Delph re-joined Leeds on loan from Aston Villa but picked up an ankle injury which saw his loan terminated.

West Brom are also reportedly interested in signing Fabian Delph this window. However, according to reports from The Mirror, Pep Guardiola has rejected an enquiry about him as a result of his sides struggling form, injuries and suspensions which may lead to a rare start for Delph against Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium this Saturday.
