Ex Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has hailed Michael Essien’s transfer move to Greek giants Panathinaikos.

The 32-year-old joined The Greens on a two-year deal on Wednesday after passing a routine medical.

Essien arrived as a free agent following the completion of his contract at AC Milan.

The Ghana midfielder’s arrival in Greece has received positive reviews as he gets the chance to show once more again that he can compete at the highest level in Europe.

Essien’s long-time friend and former international teammate Stephen Appiah believes the former Chelsea star has made the right choice to join Panathinaikos.

“I am happy for my brother. Panathinaikos is a big club. My brother (Essien) made a very good choice by moving to Greece and Panathinaikos,” he told Sportscrusader.

“We all know that in Greece there are two very big clubs - Panathinaikos and Olympiakos.

“Panathinaikos is a great club with a continuous presence in the Champions League, European history and tradition.

“I know Panathinaikos very well because I faced the Greek club while playing for Fenerbahce.

“I know they have fanatic supporters. Essien is a Champions League player who wants to play in the Champions League and Panathinaikos can offer him this opportunity.”
