Ghana striker David Accam believes he took the right decision to sign for MLS club Chicago Fire at the height of his football career.
Many football pundits were shocked by the news of the 24-year-old’s move to the United States which is considered as a retirement league for European superstars.
Accam has just come off an impressive season with Swedish club Helsingborg where he scored 30 goals in 62 appearances over a two-year period.
But the Ghana striker has defended his move – insisting the MLS is gradually becoming a competitive league with the recent acquisition of quality European stars.
“When the offer came, I compared it to others and they showed a lot of commitment,” he told Joy Sports.
“If you look at the MLS now, they are signing good players.
“Steven Gerrard is going there, [Frank] Lampardand is already there, Kaka and all.
“I believe within a year or two it [MLS] will be big.”
Accam is currently with the Ghana national team camp in Spain as they finalize their preparations for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
