Crystal Palace's Emmanuel Adebayor Wants Didier Drogba Comparison

"?Crystal Palace's Emmanuel Adebayor says he wants to be held in the same esteem that former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba was throughout his spell in English football.

The Eagles striker has plied his trade in the Barclays Premier League ever since he moved to Arsenal from AS Monaco in the summer of 2006 and has been largely a success during that time.

After spells with the Gunners, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and La Liga side Real Madrid, Adebayor joined Crystal Palace on a free transfer in January.

The 32-year-old's short contract at Selhurst Park ends in June, with the forward having scored just one goal in 15 appearances for the Londoners, and his future with Alan Pardew's men looks uncertain as a result.

But, ahead of Saturday's FA Cup final showdown with Manchester United at Wembley, Adebayor said that he hoped his time in England would be looked back upon fondly - just like ex-Chelsea player Drogba's time was.

He told "?Sky Sports: "My experience in English football has been beautiful and I would love to hit and beat that target to be remembered in English football like Didier Drogba.

"It is definitely possible [that I move abroad] but you know my love for English football. I am doing everything possible to stay but, if not, I can only say thanks to all the fans, all the journalists, those who criticised me, those who fight for and defend me.

"If I have to remain in England; fine. If I have to move on; fine. I came from somewhere to come to England, if I have to move somewhere from England, why not?

"At the end of the day I am happy and in a good moment in English football. I am lucky to still be alive. I am blessed.

"If it ends up being my last match in English football, winning the FA Cup, it would be beautiful. What a story.

"At Arsenal I couldn't win it with them, I went to City and couldn't win it with them, I went to Tottenham and couldn't win it. Coming to win it with Crystal Palace is crazy isn't it?

"Now is the right moment for me, let me go and do what I need to do to grab it."
