In a wild game full of surprises, Cruz Azul were able to best Toluca 3-1 (4-3 on aggregate) to advance to the Clausura Semifinal stage.

La Maquina cementera started the match on all cylinders, and found an early goal through Ecuadorian striker Bryan Angulo in the 10th minute, with his mate Jonathan "Cabecita" Rodriguez providing the assist. Rodriguez, one of the most prolific strikers of the LigaMX, came back to the starting eleven, after an injury had kept him out of the first leg. Toluca's response was almost immediate however, and Alexis Canelo equalized for los Diablos Rojos after only four minutes, to bring Toluca back ahead in the aggregate. Canelo finalized a superb outside of the boot assist by Rubens Sambueza, which left the striker one on one with the Cruz Azul keeper. In the second half, Cruz Azul was able to turn the score around with a penalty with only 10 minutes to go in regulation, after Luis Romo was fouled in the box. Cruz Azul main man Jonathan Rodriguez stepped up to the occasion, and his strike found the back of the net to give los cementreros the lead in the match and a tie in the aggregate that would be enough for them to advance with very little time left for Toluca to mount a comeback. Second half substitute Santiago Gimenez sealed the result for Cruz Azul with a goal from a counter in the 93rd minute, assisted once again by Rodriguez.
