Today’s matchday three showdown between Lazio and Inter finished 1-1 at the Stadio Olimpico. This is what Antonio Conte had to say after the match:
Inter seemed to have everything under control before Lazio’s equaliser….
"We definitely conceded when we were enjoying our best spell. We were dominating the game, and, at the beginning of the second half, we had big opportunities to secure the result. Instead, Lazio did well to equalise with a move we've come to expect from them. After that goal, we lost our confidence somewhat, but then we managed to respond and had further chances, like when Brozovic hit the post. However, there’s the satisfaction of coming here and playing with the character we did: we need to continue on this path. The lads showed great desire and determination, they are the first to be disappointed at not having picked up the three points. Nevertheless, it’s a really good result, and this match only makes us aware that we’re on the right path.”
How much more can Perisic learn in his role out on the wing?
"When it comes to Ivan, I’m very happy. He’s a player who can create opportunities by making the most of one-on-one situations in attack. Today, he played a decisive role when we opened the scoring. We need to work with both him and Hakimi, but I’m very happy because they’re showing great application. I’m delighted with Ivan’s performance and also that of the team. Games like this allow us to gain experience.”
Could Barella play the attacking playmaker role?
"Nicolò played in that position in Cagliari, and I think he performed well that game. In that position, he can provide quality, danger in behind and balance when we’re not on the ball. We’re trying to make all our midfielders used to playing all three midfield roles. A long season awaits, and we’ll therefore need everybody. There’s great willingness and I’m receiving great answers. Therefore, I can only be happy.”
How important is it to have depth in attack to manage everyone’s energy levels?
"We have two attackers in Lukaku and Lautaro. Then, there’s another great player in Sanchez, who is someone who tends to register more assists and provides us with quality. Pinamonti, meanwhile, is a young player who came through our youth ranks. I think that this is the right mix of players to compete in all competitions as best we can. I will alternate between solutions over the course of the season.”
