Black Stars coach Avram Grant has jumped to the defense of Spanish based goalkeeper Razak Braimah after an unconvincing performance against Mauritius.

Braimah, has been partly blamed for the stars conceding in their 7-1 victory against Mauritius.

The 27 year old seemed to have lost concentration momentarily leading to the Mauritian goal and also took his eyes off one or two balls during the game.

But Grant says every player commits mistakes and that the most important thing is the recovery.

“Our goalkeeper kept four clean sheets in six games and he did a very good job,” he said.

“He is one of the best and also the rest of our players.

“Sometimes we make little mistakes but the most important is how we recover.

“Like every game it wasn’t perfect, not even for the best team in the world.

“But I suggest to you to concentrate about the good things because you are a supporter and I am a coach and I will concentrate on the other things.”

Coach Grant is right to defend his keeper but I blame him for not rotating out Jonathan Mensah and John Boye. They both made costly mistakes during the World Cup and against Mauritius where completely out of position.

Coach Grant and his technical team should be scouting for talented center backs. Since the forced retirement from the National team by John Mensah we have not been able to find suitable replacements for the center back positions. Rashid Sumaila and Amartey were reasonably good but have not commanded the desired minutes to detrone the motley crew of Jonathan and Boye. To win the Nations Cup Ghana must find replacement of John Mensah the "Rock's" quality and calibre!

Coach Grant and his technical team have the task of scouting for talented central defenders of the calibre and quality of John Mensah if Ghana is to win the Nations Cup and advance deeper in the World Cup. John Boye and Jonathan Mensah have been good but have both made costly mistakes that have cost Ghana dearly. We need central defenders with both the physical and mental fortitude it takes to win games. This is why our captain Asamoah Gyan is invaluable for the Black Stars. He has both mental accumen and also a physcally gifted athlete. The Black Stars needs more statesmen, well educated, intelligent, the likes of Asamoah Gyan, John Mensah, Stephen Appiah etc.

Well educated by my definition does not equal book knowledge, I am refering to the ability to carry yourself with pride and dignity. To be full of confidence and not be intimidated no matter who you are facing. To know who you are and what you are about, to have that unwavering self belief and the love of country and continent that allows one to give their all and then some! To know deep in the well of your being that you are a man the equal of any man regardless of the color of their skin and then to go out there and prove it. If we can find 23 players from Ghana who are this educated, one day we will win the Nations Cup again and then continue on to win the World Cup. I am refering to players that cannot be bought at any price. Players who play because they love the game and the money is just a by-product.
