Black Stars coach Avram Grant believes the poor pitches in the country could hinder football development in Ghana.

The Israeli was critical of the playing surface in Accra despite his team's 7-1 mauling of Mauritius in the opening 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Sunday.

Many including players have complained about the pitch and the 60-year-old wants particular attention to be paid to the pitches in the country.

"If we want to develop football in Ghana, we need to know that the pitches need to be good," he said.

"The authorities need to develop the pitches and take very good care of the pitches before the football in the country will grow. We need to develop football in the country because there are a lot of talents here and the people are very passionate about the game.

"Before these talents can be developed for football to grow in Ghana, the pitches are needed to be taken a proper look at because it is key to football. The floor needs to be good before players can explore their talent.
