Asamoah Gyan says he’s won his battle against fitness after scoring four goals in three games for Al Ain.

The Ghana captain was on target for the Garden City club as they defeated their closest rivals Al Jazira 2-1 on Sunday to extend their lead at the top of the standings to six points, a significant advantage with eight rounds remaining.

The 29-year-old missed a section of the season because of injury and international commitments but says he’s feeling better each day.

“I’m getting better and better after each game,” Gyan said. “I felt better against Naft Tehran” in last week’s Asian Champions League tie “and I told my colleagues that. My running distance is improving and I’m getting my fitness back,” he said

“The win against Jazira was very, very important – it was our most important game of the season. We needed to extend our lead to six points. With the three points, we’re getting there. Everybody’s happy.”

The Ghanaian international has now scored four goals in his past three matches in all competitions. It takes his tally for the 2014/15 campaign to 12.
