Akwa United’s Matthew Optimistic Of Victory Over Al Ittihad

Akwa United star Etim Matthew is confident his side will beat  Al-Ittihad of Libya in the second leg of their  CAF Confederation Cup first round tie at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Sunday to qualify for the next round of the competition.

Akwa United lost 1-0 to Al-ittihad in the first leg at the Taieb Mhiri Stadium, Sfax (Tunisia) last week.

“My experience playing on the continent has been awesome and it has helped me to meet great players of different qualities,” Matthew, who played for Nigeria at the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda, told CAFOnline.com.

This is Akwa United’s second campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup following their exit at the preliminary stage in 2016 via a 6-5 penalty shootout loss to Mokanda of Congo after a 1-1 tie over two legs.

“From my past experience, I think Akwa United is good enough to overturn our first leg defeat in Uyo and without any doubt, our chance of winning at home is 100 per cent; we are going to leave no stone unturned to ensure we win in Uyo.

“I don’t think any player is exceptional in Ittihad and I don’t think we have to single out a player in the team; hard work and prayers would give Akwa United the edge over Al-Ittihad in the second leg match.”
