AFCON 2023: Super Eagles edge Guinea Bissau to reach next round

Nigeria Super Eagles have progressed to the round of 16 of the 2023 African Cup of Nations after beating Guinea Bissau by a lone goal in their last group match on Monday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

An own goal from Opa Sangante gave the Super Eagles a 1-0 win at the end of proceedings at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan.

Simon Moses' cross was hit into the net by Sangante who was under pressure from Victor Osimhen in 37th minute as the first half ended 1-0.

In the second half, Victor Osimhen and Zaidu Sanusi both had goals that were ruled out for offside and handball respectively while Guinea also had a goal ruled for offside.

Osimhen could also have doubled the lead, but the Napoli striker headed wide a beautiful cross from Ola Aina in the 78 minutes.

The Eagles kept the score the same till the end to finish second in group A with 7 points behind Equatorial Guinea who top the group with better goal difference.
