Nigeria Super Eagles have progressed to the quarter finals of the African Cup of Nations after beating Cameroon in the round of 16 on Sunday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Two goals from Atalanta's Ademola Lookman sealed the win for the West African giants at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan.

After Zaidu Sanusi's goal was ruled out for offside in the 12th minute, Victor Osimhen set up Lookman for the first goal of the game in the 36th minute as the first half ended 1-0 in favour of the 3-time African champions.

The second half birthed a more feisty encounter which saw Nigeria losing their number one goalkeeper in the tournament, Stanley Nwabali to injury who was replaced by Francis Uzoho.

Nevertheless, the Nigerian team remained effective and efficient to score the second goal after Lookman put in Calvin Bassey's cross in the 90th minute.

The Eagles held on the win despite 10 minutes of added time to defeat the Lions 2-0 and qualify to the quarter final to play Angola.
