Serbian born coach Milutin ‘Micho” Sredojevic has said the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals to feature against Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana will be one of the best ever.
Speaking to AfricanFootball.com, the Uganda Cranes tactician said although there have been some questionable calls by match officials in the tournament, it is good that the two in-form teams with highly rated players are in the final.
Cote d’Ivoire brushed aside DR Congo 3-, while the Black Stars saw off hosts Equatorial Guinea 3-0 at the semi-final stage of the competition which comes to a climax on Sunday.
Sredojevic team came close to qualifying for the finals when they needed only a draw in the last match, but instead lost 2-0 away to Guinea. “I am very delighted that the final will feature the two West African sides.
These two teams have been improving in every game and their players are hungry to win. This final is very un-predictable, but I expect it to be explosive,” said Sredojevic.
The Uganda Cranes coach said although he managed to get four points from Ghana in the qualifiers, he still rates the Black Stars highly and thinks they will be a tough team to handle in the final especially when their inspirational skipper Asamoah Gyan makes the team. “Gyan’s presence in that team is very important even when he does not score,” explained Sredojevic.
He said although the two teams have showed high scoring abilities and effective midfield departments, their defensive areas have some gaps. “I think the game will be won by the team that will take the small basics seriously and also get into the game in better spirits.
