Ex-Ghana defender Sammy Kuffuor has lamented the defensive approach of the Black Stars during their opening Group C match against Senegal at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations claiming it led to their defeat.

The former Bayern Munich centre-back says the Black Stars sat too deep in defence arguing that the style allowed the Teranga Lions to grow in confidence after the Ghanaians excited in the first half and wasted several scoring opportunities.

Senegal striker Mousa Sow struck late into the stoppage time to hand the Teranga Lions a 2-1 victory after Andre Ayew had scored through the penalty to give Ghana the lead.

Kuffuor says the Black Stars defenders should not have remained at the back which gave the Senegal the chance to pile more pressure on the Ghanaians.

"I was mad at our performance today especially in defence. We played too deep and you can't play a high tournament like that, it was a disaster in waiting and Senegal took full advantage," Kuffour said on SuperSport.

"We should have been smart enough not to go too deep because our defenders were finding it difficult to deal with the pace of the Senegalese. But when you defend like that, you will get punished."

Ghana will play Algeria on Friday and must win the match to enhance their chances of reaching the knock-out phase of the competition in Equatorial Guinea.

Do you agree with Sammy Kuffuor? Do you think the defence was the problem? Do you think we have enough quality? Make your views known in the below:

Hmm our great country is suffering in the hands of some few greedy baboons. Gfa destroying our football, John Mahama leading us to hell, Npp the war mongers and nation destroyers. The most deadly disease a nation can suffer is when it has voilent Politicians, ignorant leader corrupt officials and greedy managers. these can easily destroy every nation on earth. How i wise all our politicians and corrupt leaders lose their jobs and became paupers in our streets so that they could also taste the bitter fruit of poverty. and share the Dumsah Dumsah with us.
