With just two weeks to the all important 2018 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria, the Football Association of Zambia, FAZ has fired Elijah Chikwanda, assistant to former coach, George Lwandanina in a bid to finally lay to rest, the row that erupted over the choice of a team captain for the Chipolopolo. Former coach, Lwandanina and his right hand man, Chikwanda had been in a Cold War with top FAZ authorities.

However, in what was clearly a cleansing exercise, FAZ have maintained Aggrey Chiyangi and Chintu Kampamba as Chipolopolo assistant coaches.

Chiyangi who was appointed in May this year alongside Elijah Chikwanda to deputise the then caretaker coach George Lwandamina, will continue his role as assistant to newly appointed acting coach Wedson Nyirenda.

FAZ General Secretary, Mr Ponga Liwewe however explained that the move was just keep the coaching staff more focused ahead of the game against Nigeria while confirming that acting coach, Nyirenda would be in charge when they host Nigeria in Nola.
