United States defender John Brooks has said he hopes to return to training with Wolfsburg "very soon" as he continues his recovery from a tendon injury.

Earlier this week, a source told ESPN FC that Brooks, 24, was closing in on a return to full training.

And speaking to Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, the defender said: "I feel good and I am delighted to be back on the pitch, training with the ball."

He said he was "confident of returning to full team training very soon."

Brooks sustained the injury less than 45 minutes into his competitive debut for Wolfsburg in August, and said he would "wait and see how the body reacts" as he continues his comeback.

Wolfsburg sporting director Olaf Rebbe said it was difficult to give an "exact prognosis" on when Brooks would return to the matchday squad.

He praised the defender's work in rehab as "extremely diligent" and said: "Jay will get the time he needs."
