Iwobi scored his first of the season, but it was not enough as the Toffees went down to a 2-1 defeat against Erik ten Hag’s men at Old Trafford.

The Nigerian international opened scoring for Everton in the fifth minute with a superb curled strike that beat United keeper in goal.

Antony got the equalizer and first half substitute Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 700th club goal to hand Manchester United all three points in the keenly contested encounter.

The defeat put an end to Everton’s seven-game unbeaten streak.

Iwobi stated that it is important for the Merseysiders to learn lessons from the defeat and be ready to go again.

“The manner in which we conceded their two goals, it was something that we were talking about before the game, Iwobi told the club’s official website.

“We know the threat that they have on the counter-attack. We tried to nullify that, but we weren’t able to do so, couple of mistakes, it’s something that we can’t dwell on too long.”

Iwobi also reflected on his superb strike in the game.

“When the ball came to me, I thought ‘let me try and place it’. It’s something to add to my game, hopefully there’s more goals like that to come.”

Alex Iwobi has been in superb form for Everton this season assisting four times and scoring once. Frank Lampard and Evertonians are really impressed with him performances this season in midfield.
