A visit to the family house located at number 58 Salami Street, Green Land area of Ajegunle, Lagos State revealed that the father of the Watford of England and Super Eagles striker was hale and hearty as at Saturday when he spoke with his son Odion before his FA Cup game against Crystal Palace.

Odion’s brother, Daniel Ighalo said that his father was hale and hearty until his death. “My father was in his late 90’s but was healthy and never complained of being sick. When in the early hours we were told that he had taken ill, a nurse from the Faithland Hospital came around to attend to him before he gave up the ghost, we were all shocked because nothing was wrong with him.

“By the morning of Monday when people knew he was late, our house was a sort of Mecca until his corpse was moved to Edo State. His last request was that he never wanted to be kept in the mortuary but to be buried immediately in his village and that was what we had to do to honour him,” Daily Sunsports learnt during a visit Tuesday evening.

It was gathered that a formal wake keep would be held in his honour while his burial rites would be held in his village on a date yet to be announced by the Ighalo family.

The late Paul Ighalo is described as a God fearing man who is loved by all as he touched many lives; an attribute Theophilus Yemi, one of his tenants confirmed during our visit to the late Pa Paul Ighalo’s home.
