Ghanaian international left-back Nana Akwasi Asare was in devastating shape for Belgian side KAA Gent as they managed to hold French Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyon to a 1-1 drawn game in a Group H on Wednesday night.

The 29-year-old played his debut game in the competition's group stage and impressed as the Belgian champions earned a draw on their debut despite ending with nine men, although they needed Matz Sels' late penalty save.

Laurent Depoitre had a shot tipped on to the crossbar by Anthony Lopes as the Buffalos began brightly. Depoitre later had the ball in the back of the net but the forward's celebrations were cut short by the offside flag.

Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette grew increasingly influential and Sels saved well from him at the near post.

Asare's Gent are in Group H with Spanish side Valencia, Russians Zenith Saint Petersberg and Lyon.
