In a captivating U20 Women’s World Cup round of 16 match at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo, Japan U20 emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Falconets, reports Nigeriasoccernet.com.

apan U20 took the lead in the 33rd minute through Matsunaga, who scored with her head following a clever setup by her teammates. This early goal set the tone for a dynamic first half, with the Asian dominating possession.

Hijikata made it 2-0 for Japan in the 66th minute, lashing onto a loosed ball that the Nigeria defenders failed to clear.

As the match approached its final moments, Nigeria began to push for a goal, creating more chances than done in the first half and early second half. The introduction of Goodness OSIGWE and Janet AKEKOROMOWEI changed the momentum of the game Nigeria got a goal back through Olushola SHOBOWALE in the 90+1 minute.

All attempts for a comeback were thwarted by the Japanese who held their 2-1 lead till the final minute of the encounter.

The defeat marks the end of the U20 campaign for Nigeria while Japan faces Spain in the next round.
