Spalletti: Inter didn’t react well after conceding

After a 1-1 draw against PSV which put Inter out of the Champions League, Nerazzurri coach Luciano Spalletti bemoaned his team’s reaction after going a goal down early on.

Inter have fallen behind in every one of their group matches this season and Hirving Lozano put PSV ahead after just 13 minutes, making Inter’s task all the harder, and it took a frustrating Nerazzurri until the 73rd minute when Mauro Icardi bagged the equaliser. It wasn’t enough as Tottenham scored late at the Camp Nou to earn a point against Barcelona and second place in Group B.

“We are sorry for what happened,” Spalletti told the press. “We could have managed the game better, and the reaction wasn’t good when we conceded.

“We didn’t play as a team, and the frenzied reaction didn’t lead to anything. We lost some 50/50 balls which made for a complicated game.

“We gave them too many chances and PSV didn’t take advantage, but in the end we had more opportunities as we were better than PSV.

“When there are such high stakes, it isn’t easy. And if you don’t stay organised then things become more difficult.

“In the second half, we played well, and had some good situations, but couldn’t make things happen. We gave it a fair go and could have done better.

“At the end of the game we had a lot of strikers on the pitch but were still unable to win.

“These moments help us to grow, and we have a good test on Saturday [against Udinese]. Elimination hurts, but I didn’t see a bad attitude from the team.”
