Philanthropist, Toyin Sodipo, has hailed the decision of Nigeria Football Federation to retain Emmanuel Amuneke as head coach of the national U-17 side, stressing the need to start scouting for the next squad of Golden Eaglets immediately.
The Chairman and Managing Director of Tee & Tife Oil who congratulated the Golden Eaglets for their record breaking performance at the FIFA Under17 World Cup in Chile, also called on the nation’s football authority to offer career guidance and counseling to the young players to prevent them from signing wrong contracts with foreign clubs.
“Right from the time I watched the team during their qualifying series, I knew they were world-class. A lot of Nigerians did not expect them to do well at the World Cup having failed to win the African Cadet Championship early in the year. But against all odds, they rose to the occasion when it mattered most.”
“Emmanuel Amuneke should be retained to search and groom the next Golden Eaglets. Youth team coaches are rare to find. We need to start preparing for the next World Cup in 2017,” he said.
“These boys are the toast of major clubs in Europe. Football agents and scouts are desperate to sign them but we must advise them so as not to jeopardize their future. We would like to see these boys forming the bulk of the Super Eagles at the 2022 World Cup,” Sodipo predicted.
