Six Nigerian Stars To Feature In UCL Group Stages; Benfica Exclude Ebuehi

Six Nigerian players will feature in the group stages of this season’s UEFA Champions League after they were listed in their respective clubs’ squads.

Versatile full-back, Bryan Idowu who plays for Russian side, Locomotiv Moscow is among the players listed by the club even though he is yet to make a competitive appearance for his new club since his switch from Amkar Perm this summer.

Henry Onyekuru, who is on loan at Turkish outfit, Galatasaray from Everton will feature in the competition this season, while former Akwa United star Ubong Ekpai will make an appearance for Czech club, Viktoria Plzen).

Ukrainian champions, Shakhtar Donetsk have also named Kayode Olanrewaju in their squad for the competition. He is close to full recovery from an injury. Centre-back, Chidozie Awaziem is also included in Portuguese club, FC Porto’s squad.

Kwara Football Academy’s product, Emmanuel Denis is part of Belgian outfit, Club Brugge’s squad for the competition.

Injured defender, Tyronne Ebuehi has been left out by Portuguese giants, Benfica.

The Champions League group stage will kick off on September 18.
