As reported by prominent Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport, Milan are trying to find ways to sign Josip Ilicic to cover their trequartista role, who currently sees only Brahim Diaz at the position for the rossoneri

The latest rumor would see Maldini and Massara renounce Matteo Pessina's 50% resale fee in order to get a big discount on the Slovenian international. Milan would like to bring Atalanta's asking price down to around 8M Euros by doing this, given the fact that the player is on the club's for-sale list. We'll see whether this new approach by Milan will have success, but the parties are said to be close on a deal that would give Milan experience and depth in their squad after the signing of Giroud in the last few weeks.

Ilicic has been with Atalanta since 2017, and has revived his career while there. For the bergamaschi he has played in 116 matches, scoring 44 goals.
