Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr  has identified the Nigerian senior national team as the favorite group to win the 2023 Africa Football Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Rohr who was in charge of the Eagles for five years finished third in 2019 with the team before moving on in 2021.

The current Benin Republic coach in an interview with renowned journalist, Osasu Obayiwana said the three time champions have fantastic strikers but charges the midfield to be more direct.

“Nigeria is one of the favourites, of course,” Rohr claimed

“The strikers are fantastic. They need stability to be complete.

“The midfield can find the strikers with direct football, sometimes you have to take risks.”

While goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho has not inspired confidence in recent times, Rohr believes the Omonia Nicosia is capable of the task ahead.

Rohr in the interview revealed what he will be up to during the tournament in week’s time.

“I will help the local TV station RTI to analyze the games.”

After Nigeria’s opener against Equatorial Guinea on 14th January, the Super Eagles will confront the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire on 18th January, before a final group phase clash with the Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau on 22nd January.
