Enugu Rangers’attacking midfielder Edoh Ocheme remains hopeful despite being battered 4-1 by Zamalek in the first leg of the CAF Champions League round of 32 at Al Salam Stadium.
Despite the big loss, the Nigerian midfielder believes his side can pull off a comeback in the second leg at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and overturn the huge deficit.
He, however, said he didn’t expect to concede more than one goal, admitting that disappointment and frustration led him to break into tears as the goals kept coming.
“I never thought we could concede more than a goal in the encounter I wept profusely when the goals kept coming that we were three goals down in the first 45 minutes,” Ocheme told Supersport.com
“Well, we have come to accept the outcome as it’s no amount of crying could change the result of the match,” he added.
He believes that proper preparation for the second-leg game, set to be played on March 19, is key to score three goals in order to advance to the next stage of the competition.
“The task looks intimidating but not insurmountable once we are able to do the needful as well as prepare properly for the reverse fixture clash,” he explained.
He added that nothing is impossible after witnessing Barcelona create history at the Camp Nou in the Champions League and overturned a 4-0 loss against PSG.
“At least we have role models in Barcelona to copy as well as look up to as we get ready for the reverse clash.
“Barcelona have shown that in football nothing is conclusively done and dust until it’s completely over.
“That’s the mentality we will bring into the second leg coupled with some self-belief I’m sure we will upturn the disadvantage to advance to the next stage of the competition,” he added.
