Rangers defender Leon Balogun has strongly criticized the club's fans for their abuse of striker Cyriel Dessers, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Dessers, who joined Rangers from Italian club Cremonese two years ago, has faced a tumultuous relationship with most of the club's supporters despite his impressive goal-scoring record.

Balogun has come out supporting his compatriot, labeling the fans' actions as "extremely disrespectful".

"I don't condone that at all," Balogun said on the Counter Attack Podcast. "You can criticize them heavily, but watch the language. It's the same player that you would actually want to score or defend better."

Dessers has been linked with a move away from Rangers after losing his starting spot to Hamza Igamane, with Serie A clubs Cagliari and Empoli reportedly interested in the striker.
