Liverpool have reportedly begun talks with midfielder Naby Keita over a fresh contract, with his existing deal due to expire in June 2023. The Reds signed Keita from RB Leipzig for a then club-record £48 million, as was claimed by the BBC at the time.

He was one of the most exciting and dynamic midfielders in Europe during his time in the German top-flight, Bundesliga, but has struggled to replicate that performance level during his time on Merseyside.

Still, with the club having made such a considerable investment into him, they are unlikely to want to give up prematurely, particularly considering he’s only 26-years-old.

The Reds are now allegedly working on a new deal for the Guinean. According to Calciomercato, they are in negotiations with Naby over the possibility of renewing his contract beyond the summer of 2023, when it is currently due to expire.
