Leicester City made contact with Inter Milan over defender Stefan de Vrij before completing the signing of Jannik Vestergaard, according to reports in Italy. Leicester city were in desperate need to add to their defensive options ahead of the opening game of the season following injuries to Wesley Fofana and Jonny Evans.

Vestergaard completed his move to the King Power Stadium on Friday and made his debut for the club as a second-half substitute against Wolves.

Italian publication Calcio Mercato, via Sport Witness, claim that Inter ‘received a call’ from City about de Vrij, only for the club to be told that the defender was not for sale.
