Peter Crouch wrote himself into the record books with his 143rd Premier League appearance as a substitute when he came on in Stoke's 2-2 draw against Brighton on Monday night. But how does the striker match up in terms of goals?

Jermain Defoe - 23 (West Ham, Tottenham, Portsmouth, Sunderland)

Defoe is a Premier League veteran of 478 games, and a deadly finisher, so it's no surprise that he is atop the list by a substantial margin. Now at Bournemouth, he has yet to add to his tally off the bench.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer- 17 (Manchester United)

He did it all for one club and Solskjaer has the reputation of being the best ever 'super sub' -- mainly because of the injury-time goal that won Man United the 1999 Champions League final to seal the Treble.
Nwankwo Kanu - 17 (Arsenal, West Brom, Portsmouth)

With Thierry Henry, Ian Wright and Dennis Bergkamp around, Kanu made a lot of appearances off the bench and was a force too. Though he's not remembered in the same breath as Solksjaer

Having played for three of the top clubs in the Premier League, Sturridge's injury issues have left him on the bench a lot. But he has an excellent record of scoring when he comes on.
