After a safe-standing experiment was announced, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said he was "excited" about the idea of supporters being permitted to stand at Premier League games.

Standing in stadiums in England's top two divisions has been prohibited since 1994, following the Hillsborough disaster in 1989, which claimed the lives of 97 Liverpool supporters.

However, the Sports Grounds Safety Authority said last week that safe-standing will be trialed at Premier League and Championship matches beginning January 1.

"It's a good moment to start thinking about how can we get back to where we were," Klopp said before Liverpool's Premier League meeting with newly promoted Brentford on Saturday.

"I like the idea. I'm really excited about how much better the atmosphere could be at Anfield.

"I'd be really surprised if it could be even better, but I hope for that."
