Harvey Elliott's season might be over after the Liverpool midfielder sustained a severe injury in the team's 3-0 win over Leeds United on Sunday.

The young star was tackled at the midway line by Pascal Struijk in the second half, and he had to be stretchered off the field of play.

For the challenge, Struijk received a straight red card, and the decision to remove the Leeds defender has sparked discussion ever since.

There are a number of people who believe the Leeds player should not have been sent off, including Elliott.

Struijk was defended by the 18-year-old on Instagram, who claimed that the horrific occurrence at Elland Road last Sunday was merely a "freak accident."

Elliott used social media medium to express himself.

“Wasn’t his (Struijk) fault whatsoever. Neither was it a red card. Just a freak accident but these things happen in football. I’ll be back stronger 100%. Thanks for all the support.”
