From Mirror, in the years after Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United, only 25 Premier League goals were scored by the players who took the No.7 shirt he vacated. Michael Owen, Antonio Valencia, Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay, Alexis Sanchez, and most recently Edison Cavani all found the weight of the famous United shirt hard to carry.
It can be argued Cavani is the only man to do the shirt justice, scoring nine Premier League goals last season, equating for just under half of the total goals. But the Uruguayan is set to hand the famous number back to Ronaldo, who will be eager to pick up where he left off.
However, Ronaldo’s former teammate Di Maria savagely banished all mystique around the iconic number saying he didn’t “give a f***" about the number.
"I didn't give a f*** about the Manchester United No.7,” Di Maria was quoted telling TyC Sports in a wide-ranging interview. "At first they talked to me a lot about it... it was just a shirt.”
It is the latest scathing remark the Argentinean has aimed towards The Red Devils. The former Real Madrid man was signed for United by previous manager Louis Van Gaal in a £59.7million deal.
