The nature of the injury Nigeria's star striker Victor Osimhen has been revealed and he is expected to return action soon, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Osimhen will miss the crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa due to ankle ligament damage sustained during the 1-0 victory over Rwanda on Saturday.

Osimhen, who limped off in the first half and was replaced by Cyriel Dessers, underwent scans with his club Galatasaray, which confirmed the extent of the injury.

Galatasaray's team doctor Yener ?nce revealed that Osimhen has suffered a moderate sprain with stretching and bleeding in his ankle ligaments.

Ince further revealed that necessary treatment has been initiated and Osimhen back on the field as soon as possible.

“A moderate sprain (stretching and bleeding) was detected in his ankle ligaments and the necessary treatment has been initiated in order for our football player to return to the field as soon as possible.” said Ince

Osimhen's absence deals a significant blow to Nigeria's qualifying campaign, with the team needing a win against South Africa to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
