Former  Ghana international, Asamoah Gyan has put in a word of support for Osimhen regarding the African player of the year award, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Osimhen has been in a blistering form all year winning the Italian Serie A title with Napoli a trophy which has eluded the club in 33 years.

On the journey to this success, the 24 yet old contributed 26 goals in 32 league appearances for the Partenopei. A feat never achieved by any African player before now.

In Europe, Osimhen also recorded five more goals for the Naples club in the UEFA Champions League.

And so on the bases of these achievements, Gyan is backing the striker as the right candidate to win the best player award.

“For me, he (Osimhen) deserves it. As a striker and seeing what he is doing, for the first time in over 30 years, winning the league with Napoli. He deserves it,” Gyan told Brilla FM via Daily Post.

The 2023 edition of the prestigious CAF awards will come up in December 11 in Morocco.
