Former Super Falcons of Nigeria captain Oparanozie Desire has been given a recognition by the Imo State Football Association following the lethal forward retirement announcement for both club and country at age 29, Nigeriasoccernet.com writes.
The 29-year-old who was part of the Super Falcons squad that featured at the 2023 FIFA women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand announced her retirement last week and has been lauded for her exploits for her nation in which many are still in awe of the decision to quit football.
She took to her X handle to confirm the recent honor bestowed on her:
"Over the weekend I was conferred as an Honorary member of the Imo State Football Association. Special appreciation to the Imo State FA Chairman and it's executive committee members for such an honour."
"A recognition I do no take for granted. Long live Imo State," the post ended.
The World Cup at Australia was her fourth appearance at the Women World Cup after making her debut at the 2011 edition in Germany after she helped the Falcons win four Women’s Africa Cup of Nations titles between 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018.
