Dombraye who played his football up to the Super Eagles level has been coaching in Ukraine since he quit active football and now wants to return to the NPFL.

The Ukraine based ex footballer,  stated that only about seven in the NPFL fit in the profile of clubs he wants to coach.

“I want to win the League, then win the CAF Champions League and then go ahead to play in the FIFA Club World Cup. This is the target for my next few years in the Nigerian League,” Dombraye told NigerianFootballer.com.

“In the current Nigerian League as I see it, there are only about seven clubs that can really win the League and compete in Africa.

“I do not mean any disrespect to the others and that is why I won’t name any clubs, but there are really only seven that fit the profile of clubs that can win the League,” Dombraye said.

Eddy Dombraye told NigerianFootballer.com that it takes more than a coach or players to win the league.

“The management have to possess the belief, just like a coach has the belief because players are very smart and they see it on your body language which says it all.

“I have a target. It is like a personal thing to me. I want to play in the World Club Cup and I am not talking five, six or seven years. As soon as possible and there shouldn’t be excuses. If, for example I come in at the beginning of next season, the target has been set already.”

Dombraye added that circumstances could make him look at other teams in the league.

“First of all, we have to listen to the offer and gauge the ambitions of the team. There are teams outside these seven who we can work with. Look at Leicester City. What was their ranking the season they won the league? They were not even a top ten side before then.

“When you have a target, sometimes you can exceed it. Yes there are teams I said are below the top seven, but it will all depend on my talk with the management,” Dombraye said.

Eddy Dombraye played his club football with Bendel Insurance, Iwuanyanwu Nationale and Eagle Cement in Nigeria before he moved to Poland in 1998.

After a career spanning more that twenty years, he has turned to coaching and wants to try out in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
